Rain
Marcel Brodeur
Year of creation: 1969
Material: black-and-white movie
Size: 2min
In the black-and-white film Rain, Marcel Brodeur sits in a man-made downpour and writes with ink on an unwritable, soggy piece of paper. Like Sisyphus, the artist persists in writing until the final scene of the film, when he finally gives up on this attempt and puts down his pen, and the image emerges as the theme of the film: "The Text Project." Through this work, the artist expresses the fragility, even the impossibility, of writing, as if symbolizing in an ironic way the contemporary artist's abandonment of the act of "transmission of information".
