Physical Color 2658
Cruz Diez
Year of creation: 2017
Material: Chromography on aluminium, plastic slide
Size: 140 x 70 x 5 cm
Physical Color 2658 demonstrates how color changes depending on the position and movement of the viewer-as the viewer moves in front of it, alternating linear patterns of color produce a visual experience of circles floating on a square background.
Segmenting the plane allows Cruz-Diez to show color in successive transformations, generating new colors in areas where the strips overlap. The title of the work is a term he coined, derived from the term "physical chromatic aberration".
