Wind Chime (Rhombus) is a large sculpture over 9 meters in diameter, spinning slowly through the air with a program-controlled motor in a hypnotic, constant and uniform rotation, an indispensable element of movement in dynamic art. The dynamics of the geometric structures in the work move like waves, constantly splitting and twisting from perfect unity, cyclically. Between light and shadow, the harsh silver surface of the diamond-shaped sculpture spreads out, revealing extremely rich and subtle changes. The inspiration for the "Wind Chimes" series came from geometric metal wind chimes that the artist found at a craft market, by simplifying the intricate filigree forms and enlarging them to dozens of times. The coarse texture left on the surface by the rounded movements of the hand during the carving process emphasizes their material properties.
"About ten years ago, I bought a similar object at a Christmas market in Berlin and was fascinated by the dynamics and effects of its light reflection. This chance encounter with an ornament was the starting point for turning it into a sculpture by scaling it up. What appeals to me here is how modern derived elements and shapes can be transformed into decorations and back into art again."
