Bernard Vernet, one of France's foremost conceptual artists, works with metal sculptures, coal, asphalt and tar materials and mathematically reconfigures them to create overlapping, replicating, and recurring linear structures, his sculptures take on a self-speaking quality independent of their environment.
One of the most influential French artists in the world to date, Bernard Vernet's work is included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious art institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. In 2005, he was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre de la Légion d'Honneur, the highest honor in France.
