Suzhou is a water town, and bridges make up the unique urban impression of this city, bringing a poetic and romantic sentiment. This exhibition starts from the concept of "bridges" and explores the multiple aesthetic tastes of "bridges" in Chinese culture. "Hongqiao" is a particularly rich analogy, a symbol of auspiciousness and beauty in traditional Chinese cultural imagery, and is also seen as a bridge connecting people and gods, the past and the future. The arched and rainbow like long bridge is a legendary bridge connecting heaven and earth, representing the pursuit of an ideal world. Looking at the world, "bridges" are also a common element among different civilizations. Their shapes are astonishingly similar in various parts of the world, and they have symbolic significance for communication and exchange in various cultures.
Nowadays, communication in human society has greatly surpassed the limitations of physical environments. Virtual cyberspace has built new "bridges" around the world, crossing time and geographical limitations, connecting various complex contexts and ecological fragments of the world together, gradually merging into a new world. We hope to build more "Hongqiao" to bring more surprises and hope to this new world.
The "Rainbow - World from the Bridge" exhibition is the fourth exhibition under the "Self" series hosted by the Jinji Lake Art Museum. With "Bridge" as the clue, it gathers more than 39 cross disciplinary art creators and groups from home and abroad, including Fei Jun, Zhang Yonghe, Lai Shengchuan, Huo Jianqi, Qiu Ting, Wang Shaoqiang, and the limited image studio, integrating different creative media, interpreting the rich cultural connotations of the bridge from physical space to spiritual concepts, from real scenes to virtual worlds.
