The design concept of the holiday chalet practices Corbusier's creative principles of rigour and simplicity in relation to basic human needs. The chalet represents an exploration and investigation of the concept of the smallest unit, which was at the heart of the concerns of modern architects in the 20th century. It embodies the concepts of local materials and sustainable architecture, the spiritual quest for human progress and the improvement of human living conditions, and the attempt to push the limits of the smallest human unit.
Under the authorisation and support of the Fondation Le Corbusier, the 6th Suzhou-Jinji Lake Biennale will curate this special competition to pay tribute to Le Corbusier, the master of architectural design.
Contents of the competition
"People are at the centre of everything" is a belief that has existed since the beginning of civilization, when mankind began to adapt to the natural environment and to connect nature with architecture. As creators and innovators of the built environment, human beings place themselves at the centre of the universe: geographically, between the city and nature; temporally, between the rising of the East and the setting of the West; and ideologically, between heaven and earth. In his later years, Corbusier integrated everything he thought he needed to live in a hut, in an attempt to answer the question: "How much space does one really need if it is to live simply and to house a soul?"
In this era of rapid technological development and information explosion, people are confronted with climate change, life stress and other issues, some people are more eager for social relationships, while some people live in isolation ...... The hope for the future prompts people to re-examine their own environments, explore nature in the concrete jungle, or build their own shelters amidst the crowds of people. or to build their own shelters in the crowd. This year's Biennale asks participants to take Le Corbusier's holiday chalet as their inspiration, continue the wisdom and humanistic connotations of the original design's "smallness makes the big picture bigger", and create Le Cabanon 2.0, which combines the context of the times and the needs of the humanities.
