2023.4.15-06.25
The international cutting-edge art exhibition "We, Getting Better" is now on display in Suzhou. A total of 38 world-renowned artists, designers and art organizations from 16 countries are participating in the exhibition, which brings together 177 pieces of sculptures, installations, oil paintings, manuscripts, multimedia art and other forms of works. Among them, 90% of the works are debuted in China.
As one of the theme exhibitions of the 6th Suzhou-Jinji Lake Biennale 2023, the exhibition invited Carlos Cruz-Diez Jr, director of Atelier Cruz-Diez in Paris, to be the honorary curator of the exhibition. On the scene, in addition to displaying Carlos Cruz Diez's masterpieces, this international cutting-edge art exhibition also draws inspiration from the Op Art represented by him, designing the main visual screen, combined with AR art, to present a dynamic visual effect, which is both avant-garde, interesting and interactive.
Mentioning the names of the world's top masters, such as Andy Warhol and Le Corbusier, will sound familiar even to non-art lovers. In this exhibition, visitors can enjoy Andy Warhol's screen-printed work "General Custer: Cowboys and Indians" and René Magritte's "The Great War" from a zero distance. In addition to top masterpieces, the exhibition also features classic works by global avant-garde artists such as Balderrami Tugo's "Springtime for Humanity" and Carlos Cruz Díez's "Physical Colors 1927" and "Physical Colors 2658".
Stopping in front of Joanna Vasconcelle's works "Blue Moon" and "Cherry Bomb", audience member Wu Hua felt the beauty of simplicity. The integration of crochet (a traditional Portuguese hand-knitting technique) into the creation of visual installation art is a characteristic of Joana Vasconcelle's works. In Wu Hua's view, Joana Vasconcelle is using a witty and humorous approach to integrate art into everyday objects, building a bridge between the domestic environment and public space.
In the paintings of Israeli artist Raphael Peretz, urban landscapes are depicted with childlike innocence. In this exhibition, Raphael Peretz's painting "Suzhou Garden", specially created for this year's Suzhou-Jinji Lake Biennale, also makes a surprise appearance, which is refreshing. The work vividly shows the Suzhou cityscape in the artist's mind through warm, naive and expressive colors.
Le Corbusier is one of the most admired architects of the 20th century, an advocate of modernist architecture, and known as the "Father of Functionalism". The international cutting-edge art exhibition "We, Getting Better" is specially set up to pay tribute to Le Corbusier, displaying a model of "Le Cabanon de Le Corbusier" and 29 manuscripts of the artist.
At the same time, this year's Suzhou-Jinji Lake Biennale, in cooperation with the Le Corbusier Foundation and Xijiao Liverpool University, invites students from all over the world to participate in the competition. Inspired by Le Corbusier's Cabanon, it continues the wisdom and humanistic connotations of the original design, "small is big", and creates Le Cabanon 2.0, which combines the context of the current era and humanistic needs.
"I am honored to work with the Suzhou-Jinji Lake Biennale. We will provide some of our collections and archives for the exhibition, including a model of Le Corbusier's cabin." Brigitte Bouvier, president of the Le Corbusier Foundation, said that Le Corbusier's work is rooted in the dialogue between generations, cultures, past and future, and that these echo the Foundation's joint organization of the Le Cabanon 2.0 design competition with the Suzhou-Jinji Lake Biennale.
According to the introduction, the international cutting-edge art exhibition "We, Getting Better" is open to the public free of charge from April 15th to June 25th. The international cutting-edge art exhibition participating artists' creations are mostly based on the theme of mankind, nature and light. Artists from all over the world form an international group exhibition and are exhibited alongside Chinese contemporary and traditional art, which complements Suzhou's traditional and modern city qualities.
